Contest: Who Has Been Stealing Union Bridge's Trash?

Posted by wastenotcarroll on August 16, 2010 at 9:37 AM
Last week, the Carroll County Times reported that somebody has been stealing the trash from Union Bridge, (you can read the full story by clicking here). In light of this mystery, we here at Waste Not! Carroll are proposing a contest: Who has been stealing the trash? Are Mike Evans and friends secretly starting a stockpile of garbage, so that they can make up for the deficit in the amount of trash needed to run the proposed incinerator? Submit your best guess for who has been taking Union Bridge's garbage. The funniest answer will be rewarded with a prize!

At first, I hoped it was a modern day Robin Hood, stealing trash bags so they could go forth and clean-up some littered roadway or park, but, if they are taking the trash, too, that's a whole different story. Maybe they are harvesting those valuable recyclables inside. Or maybe it's just proof that one man's trash is indeed another man's treasure?!?

Has to be Frank Shaffer, former Asst. Public Works Director for the County and now Town Manager for New Windsor. He looks an awful lot like the guy caught in the street cam - photo and has that suspicious public works, trashy background and affiliation with Mike "the incinerator" Evans. His recent move to New Windsor places him in a position where he can even more stealthily swipe the goods from one-town-over Union Bridge.

I think it is a very progressive, forward-thinking individual who understands the value of petroleum based products. He or she is simply hoarding the simple, under-appreciated trash bag. What brilliant planning for the future!

At a time when Maryland is moving towards being the Trash Burning Headquarters along the Eastern Seaboard (thanks to the NMWDA), this person is saving this commodity for its future value. Someday it may be worth more than gold! When the NMWDA's Regional Trash Incinerator is up-and-running in Frederick, and as trash production dwindles over the next 30 years because of advances in Zero Waste, this person will have piles and piles of high-BTU bags to sell to the desperate, waste and recyclable eating facility!

The waste "experts" want us to believe trash is a renewable resource. Like the sun? Like the wind? I've heard them go so far as to call our waste indigenous. This individual is laughing as the uninformed citizen believes the "renewable" pitch. He knows better because he has yet to see a plastic garbage bag grow on a tree. (And how long does it take the earth to make the oil which ultimately becomes The Trash Bag?)

So all of us, go now and hoard those plastic bags so you too can make-up the lost value of those 401(k)s. Frederick and Carroll will be wanting those bags 20-30 years from now, at whatever price, in order to feed that incinerator!

Oh yeah, he's in costume so no one knows who he is and comes to steal his stash of light-weight, valuable, high BTU, petroleum products!

I know it's Ridgely--who without a doubt is the best trash collector in the county....a quick read of www.chaoscomestocarroll will convince anyone that where's there's trash, Ridgely finds it and sends it on to Chaos...even when only clandestine tactics will do. It is funny, that the more trash he collects, the better I feel. Stay in the trash cans, Ridgely, and keep lettin' the public know where the trash is hidden!!!!! Lord knows how much of it is being spewed in the county during election season.
P.S. The trash Ridgely' digs up is the only trash worth burning!!!!!

I think Don has not been properly feeding Lancelot and that he gallops over to Union Bridge when the West family is unaware and eats the trash.

Shades of ye old flush tax, It's Martin O'Malley! By golly the Guv has gone and lost it all over a heap of garbage. His endorsement of the Burnomatic Plan will surely kead to a victoy by Murphy in the gubernatorial election. At least he's given all of the Carroll Democratic Commissioner candidates an opportunity to prove their conservative chops by disagreeing with him on this issue. Perhaps they can just influence their party mate to ship all of Frederick and Carroll's burnables to Baltimore. No one will notice the difference there, particularly at the proposed site for the new mega WTE. Now tha's a pro-family, pro-business plan we can all support!

You're getting warmer. But it would likely be one of our goats before Lance would lumber that far for some garbage! He has rather sophisticated taste.

It must be Gov. O'Malley in that costume!

Congressman Roscoe Bartlett has been stealing them. Since the Supreme Court's Citizen's United ruling says it's ok for big corporations to give as much money as it wants to political candidates, Roscoe and his buddies don't have anywhere to store all that cash, so he's stealing the bags. And even though there may be trash in some of those bags already, that's ok - the money's dirty too. Their cash ain't nothing but trash!
